For much of this week, after a federal judge temporarily froze the gag order she imposed on him, former President Donald J. A spokesperson for Hur, who oversees the Justice Department’s probe into classified documents found at Biden’s home and former private office, declined to comment to CNN. Taveras struck the deal with prosecutors after he was threatened with prosecution, defense attorney Stanley Woodward wrote in the filing dated Tuesday. According to the terms of the deal explained in the filing, Taveras agreed to testify in the classified documents case and in exchange will not be prosecuted. CNN —Former President Donald Trump is asking the federal judge overseeing special counsel Jack Smith’s criminal election subversion case against him to set the trial for April 2026. The federal judge in the documents case has set that trial for May 2024, while the New York case is set to go to trial in March of next year. “President Trump must prepare for each of these trials in the coming months. Several will likely require President Trump’s presence at some or all trial proceedings,” they wrote. “Without question, President Trump’s obligation to diligently prepare for this case does not end because of other pending matters,” the attorneys said.

Trump pleaded not guilty to four criminal charges related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election last week. In this case, however, the special counsel’s office and Trump’s defense lawyers have battled in court filings over what Trump will be able to discuss publicly. If Trump were to violate any eventual protective order Chutkan issues, he could be held in contempt.

CNN —The special counsel investigation into Donald Trump secured a search warrant of the former president’s Twitter account, @realDonaldTrump, according to a newly unsealed court filing. The search was so secret that Twitter was initially barred from telling Trump the search warrant had been obtained for his account, and the company, now known as “X,” was fined $350,000 because it delayed producing the records sought under the search warrant. The search warrant special counsel Jack Smith obtained sought “data and records related” to Trump’s account, and ultimately, the platform was allowed to share some information about the search warrant with the former president. It said that Smith’s office had “difficulties” when it first attempted to serve Twitter with the search warrant and nondisclosure order. The next week, however, prosecutors contacted Twitter’s lawyer to check on the status of their compliance with the search warrant.

CNN —A federal grand jury reconvened on Tuesday for the first time since handing up an indictment last week against former President Donald Trump related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 election. CNN spotted grand jury members at the federal courthouse in Washington, an indication that the investigation into election interference is not over. In the Trump indictment, prosecutors refer to six unnamed co-conspirators, raising questions about whether they also could face charges in the case. On Monday, Bernie Kerik, a longtime Giuliani associate who coordinated with him after the 2020 election, met with investigators at the special counsel’s office. Kerik spoke with investigators about Giuliani’s efforts to try to uncover election fraud in 2020, according to his attorney Tim Parlatore.

Donald Trump is facing more criminal charges in a federal case accusing him of mishandling classified documents. The new allegations are in a revised indictment from the special counsel’s office released last night. It added three charges: attempting to “alter, destroy, mutilate, or conceal evidence”; asking someone else to do so; and a new count under the Espionage Act. Prosecutors said that Trump asked the property manager of Mar-a-Lago, his Florida home, to have surveillance camera footage deleted.
